Byoushitsu de Nenbutsu wo Tonaenaide Kudasai – Episode 1

Posted on

I wouldn’t say I’m 100% sold on this drama yet. Saying that, I won’t drop it without good cause, and it often takes more than the first episode for to get into a drama. With that in mind, I’d really appreciate your thoughts and comments on this, do you love it… why?

I do feel like I could really learn a lot about the Japanese attitude to religion, it is quite shocking how insulting people are towards Matsumoto.

It’s worth adding that the word they use for monk – bouzo is quite often used in a derogatory way. I just couldn’t come up with an English alternative that fit, but you can generally tell by the tone of voice.

As for the sutras, I have added a translation for the one used in the introduction. It is a famous one and there are many translations available. I found the translation that I decided to use here if anyone wants to look into it further.

I decided not to translate any further sutras, for the main reason that many Japanese people don’t understand them. I probably won’t translate further ones either, unless the meaning is important.

Thanks for 1st episode sub :). Like you, I didn’t love the drama, yet. But I do like some actors on its cast, and based from episode 1, I think it might become one of those ensemble dramas that you enjoy just for the pleasure of seeing its characters interact.
